What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi Vanessa

Yes! im glad Judge accepted your letter! Always try doing whatever , anyway you can where all this divorce malarky is concerned. What i have learnt throughout all this is solicitors push the boundaries all the time, no one seems interested that things are'nt filed on time, they do things that i thought in law books say you cant. i.e. i thought any letter you sent to a solicitor "without prejudice" on it couldnt be show in court unless you, the sender referred to it or shown it to the courts first! Well the other side did this in our case??? A solicitor told me they cant do it, but hey presto they did. Has anyone said anything about it? no!
So in my book try any way you can, we were told we could never get our case moved to where we live, were in the midlands, his ex is up north, BUT WE DID! AND she appealed it and WE won it!
As for him wanting 88% equity and none of the debts, mega unreasonable in my book, but its the same here, because i paid all my hubbys debts off, his ex claims he no longer had any debts and they never had a mortgage!!!!! Lol she wants 70% of his pension, 45K equity from MY house and SM! i wouldnt mind so much but i havent got 45k left in my property! lol. OOOOOOOO all the debts they just magically dissapeared!!! NOT!

O well such is life.....
Keep your chin up mush.
