What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Do you need help sorting out a fair financial settlement?

Our consultant service offers expert advice and support to help you reach agreement on a fair financial settlement quickly, and for less than a quarter of the cost of using a traditional high street solicitor.

:blush:Gosh I am overwhelmed Looby.

Go into your hearing firing all guns. If the judge doesnt give you what is fair he should be fired or he should change the type of coffee he drinks.

In fact I have heard it on good authority that some judges are so bored of going through hearings that they nod off while the arguements fly around them so they probably need a lot of coffee!!!! B)

Wow what a varied response from many people.
I apologies for not picking this thread up sooner and posting some form of defense until now, so without aiming to offend anyone here goes:-
Even before registering as an individual I approached the site for a corporate link, I am awaiting further contact from the owner and will seek a two way link between our sites.
I have checked the site rules and it’s against them to advertise your firm in your threads so I apologies for not picking this up sooner. I have removed my details from the signature section and like some of you say, if the suggestions and thoughts that I can contribute prove to be of benefit then I won’t need to advertise.
I don't offer mortgage advice. I have chosen not to sit the necessary examinations and I use other advisers to provide this area of advice to my clients. I hold an Advanced Financial Planning certificate that means I am a pension specialist and I also work in investments and Inheritance tax planning and it’s this experience that I have been able to use to help clients achieve a better result in their divorce.
I am a big believer in providing Fee Based advice and will openly offer this as an option to all of my clients. It enables me to be impartial as well as independent but for most clients the concept of paying in advance simply does not appeal unless they are looking to invest a lot of money. For the last 200 years or more Commission based advice has been the norm and it’s a lonely struggle to change mass opinion.
In defense of commission, divorce can be expensive and lawyers and other professionals only have the option to charge a fee, at least as an IFA I can offer my clients a choice.
Men V Women mmmm I was passing an opinion here, there are always going to be exceptions and I fully appreciate that. I would much rather use my creative thinking to help bring more balance and fairness than try and help someone keep more than they are perhaps entitled too. Let’s think of it as Karma I want to come back as a well fed pussy cat so I am trying to build towards that goal by offering some help. If you’re a man or a women and you’re soon to be ex is trying it on then I would like to think that I may be of help to you.
So how about I get judged over time rather than my first half dozen posts.
I receive nothing for my time spent online reading and writing on these threads, I merely want to help some people who are looking for help along a path that is pretty frustrating and often barren of genuine people willing to lend a hand.

wow, been off ill for a few days and come back to five pages of posts

Best of luck from me as well Looby

@Neo: he's already signed a few things over to me such as Death in Service. The financial side should be relativity straight forward (if she had agreed it would have been sorted without sols!), but as we're still waiting for her to return her form we can't move forward yet.
