What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi Louise

I will certainly sort this out as i really had no idea until visiting this site just what could happen post-divorce. I really did believe that the divorce was the final 'event'. Neither of us sought legal advice as we had sorted everything out ourselves when we separated, and my own guilt in leaving led me to leave him with the better deal. I still have no wish to change that as i would rather start all over again.

Thank you ever so much for your advice, i will definitely get a Consent Order so i can rest easily and build my new life.

Being abroad shouldn't be a problem.

One other point to mention is although future claims may be made if there is no consent order when someone remarries they are barred from making a claim.
