What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi all

Doese any one know how long exactly is a short, medium and long marriage? Also do you know if the lenght of marriage is counted untill submition of the divorce petition or untill getting the nisi or untill the absolute? and to what I have seen on the WIKI many people say not only the lenght of there marriage but also how long befor they were living together. Is this counted as well?
Sorry for the many quastion but it is really needed.

Don't apologise, pleased to oblige. :)

In England & Wales the length of marriage before breakup is open to interpretation. Anything up to about 10 years might be considered short, 20 years or more long. Recently the courts have been prepared to treat a period of pre-marital cohabitation as part of the overall duration of the marriage if the couple have moved seamlessly from living together into marriage.
