What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hello-Im new to this-and its quite a complex story!I married my wife 8 years ago(3 stepchildren all over 18 now)and have been separated for 1year.My wife was/is very wealthy-when we were first married she showed me a portfolio of her trust-shares,property,land,etc in excess of £8million.Subsequently our first year of marriage was wonderful, first class holidays, sports cars the works-.Then customs froze all the money(still frozen 7years later).Obviously things changed alot after that-lets just say when poverty knocks on the door-love jumps out the window! As I said were separated now-and solicitors say customs should be finished with us this year-so divorce proceedings havnt started yet-until customs have finished! She has offered me £100k as a settlement-and depending on what you read-trusts arent divorce proof anymore-im wondering has anyone had any similar situation such as this? How do I find out what kind of trust it is?Discretionary probably-which according to some is bad news for me!
