What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Yet I have had to maintain the house for the last three years and my son.

In my experience this counts for nothing.

I too am in a similar position to everyone else. It seems in our court system it does not matter whaat stbx does he/she will still come up smelling of roses. It is a shame that people have no respect for each other these days. I certainly could not walk away from all my responsibilities and expect to leave my wife/husband on the bresdline with the chance of being homeless so I can spend all my money on OW/OM and children leaving my ex to support my own. Seems to be the norm though, how it is called jstice though beats me. I wish you all the luck in the world with your case.
