What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

My husband and I separated 18 months ago and I have managed on my own without any financial help from him since that time.
Meanwhile he has refused to continue with mediation (he felt she was on my side(?!), has spent oodles on a solicitor, taking his new partner on holidays, meals out etc. He''s never been great at managing his finances, whereas I''m quite good at it. Now he says he has no money and wants half the savings policy I have paid into for 25 years (£13,000) which is about to mature.
While I understand that everything has to go into the pot, it''s hard to take when I am having to watch every penny. Any words of wisdom/consoling thoughts anyone?

We''re going through the financial settlement right now.
We''ve been married 17 years.
He''s cross cos I''ve asked for half his pension but he earns 30k a year and I earn 10k and I don''t have a pension.

Hi
Well TBH I''d have to say you are being a little bit unfair, if you are suggesting that his pension is included and your savings are not.
