Hi there,

I am going to be made redundant in roughly this time next year! I have been living with my girlfriend foe 13 years and we have decided to split. Is she entitled to any of my redundancy payment?

Regards

Mark

If you were not married your girlfriend doesn't have a claim on your assets per se. In Scotland she can make financial provision claims for relationship disadvantage if, for example, she gave up a career or relocated for the benefit of the relationship or needs to pay childcare costs.

A claim has to be made within a year of separation and the courts consider all the financial circumstances.
