What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Basically, my partner is leaving me.

We have a joint mortgage and both pay half to everything.

We are not married and have been living together for about 15 months and have no children.

When we purchased the house, I sold my old house that was in my name only and that was used as a deposit for the house we are in now.

She has put about £4000 in at best!

Neither of us can afford to buy out one another or take on the mortgage individually.

My main concern is that I will lose most of the deposit I put down (£40,000) from my old house that was solely in my name.

Please advise.
