What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Dibble. Try not to worry about the interview too much. All that will happen is they will ask you some questions relating to your current circumstances - its just a formality. Do you have someone who can go with you?

The lack of confidence is something I understand. Go and have a chat with your GP about things in general - you may surprised at what help there is. I was offered stress and anxiety management classes which helped a great deal. And there is always us here to talk to :)

Will be thinking of you tomorrow. Can you post an update on how the interview went?

Ruby

Hi Ruby,
it was you that helped me to apply in the first place and im so grateful to you for that,i dont know whats happened to me lately it must be about 4 months now since i found out about the affair and i can see myself changing into someone i dont like,im snappy with my girls and i never did that before,i was out shopping recently and realised i had forgotten to brush my hair which is really stupid something i would never do before,i cant get through an evening now without at least one glass of wine and lie awake till the early hours,my daughters been late for school 3 times in the last 2 weeks and its my fault bcoz i overslept, writing this down has made me realise i need to sort myself out.
No theres no one to go with me tomorrow,i have to take my 2 year old who is going thru the ,terrible twos's,at the moment.
I have thought about going to the doctors,i suppose i dont want to admit im not ok but im not.I will post you an update its a good job in a way im so desperately short of cash or i know i wudnt go.

Well ive been!
After a nightmare morning i made the appt, was not as bad as i thought, had to wait a long time to get seen so 2 year old started getting bored and being naughty, the lady i saw was kind and understanding and made me feel much better about things.
Ex has texted me twice asking how did it go,but only for selfish reasons so i just said 'ok'.So now we wait for a decision:S

Glad it wasn't as daunting as you had thought :)

The decision should be fairly quick. Make sure you are also applying for all the other benefits you may be entitled to, and have advised the Child Tax Credit office of your change of circumstances.

You can now relax with a cuppa and your little one can snuggle up with you while you watch In the Night Garden :)

i dont know what i was worrying so much for i had got myself into a right state over it.The lady i saw told me to apply for tax credits(husband was getting working tax and dealt with all that before so its a bit new to me),my youngest is currently fast asleep from all the travelling weve done today and my 8 year old is buried in a book(she loves reading),so im having a quiet cuppa tea while i have chance,ex has texted loads all afternoon trying to findout how it went this morning, funny but today has really boosted my confidence enough to not let him force me into telling him, isnt that wierd.

Not weird, just good :)

Hopefully today will have given you a bit of self-confidence back, and you can start to become a bit stronger with each day.
