My eldest left school last month soon after her 18th b'day but my last child benefit payment included her.
I informed tax credits and shes off that claim now.
When my eldest turned 16 child benefit automatically stopped a few months after her b'day and I phoned them and said she was staying on in 6th form and they reinstated the money for her.
Is there a "roll over" time after leaving full time education where you still get child benefit and if thats the case why dont tax credits do the same.
My daughter is trying to find work as well as waiting to hear whether shes got onto another course at college which, if she does tax credits said that I can claim again for her.
Thing is shes not working, not getting EMA anymore nor can claim jobseekers til she hears about this other course so I'm still supporting her but without her chunk of tax credits and it's hard!
I just looked on the child benefit website and they pay until the last Monday in August for a child who leaves education in the summer.
When I phoned tax credits last month they took my daughter off my claim (just had award saying so)...although it's got me puzzled too as theres not a roll over period with tax credits but there is with CB...also I informed housing benefit who are keeping daughter on our claim until September.
You'd think all benefits would be the same wouldnt you as now our household income is below what it should be in some areas but not in others.
It amazes me how quick they are to stop payments and how slow they are to re-instate them.
They stopped my child care, no warning, no notification. I called them to ask why and THEY don't know why THEY stopped them and refuse to do anything about.
What ever happened to natural justice.
I dont know James.
I am left now still having to care and provide for a family of 7 whilst the tax credits will only give us enough to live on for 6!
Tax credits messed up my child care costs for the past 3 years resulting in HUGE overpayments and so this holiday I am forking out myself for it as I cant trust them at all! A system that was put in place to help us has totally lost my confidence!
My eldest daughter cannot claim JSA until she hears whether she's got on the course she's applied for in Sept and college have told us it might be August when we hear anything!
In the meantime she's applying for every job she can to no avail as she cant give any definate answers as to hours of availability come Sept (if she gets into college working hours will be limited, if not she would be available for work 24/7).
There is something hopelessly wrong with the system!
Hi, my children benefit for my just turned 16 year old ends the beginning of September. He has been offered a college place depending on his exam results, for Sept. I should know the outcome by mid August and have been told by CB and TC that all I have to do is phone them with college details when we receive the course welcoming letter. As I understand it, both payments will just rollover, it's assuming he passes the exams. I'd give them both a call.
Same problem here, daughter finished her last exam 1st july, renewed tax credit claim a couple of days later. New amount came in £200 a month less than ive been getting. Now she hasnt a job yet, her child benefit continues till september so she cant claim any benefits in her own name so for the next couple of months im short by £200 with no way of replacing it. once the CB stops ill have £570 a month coming in to pay the mortgage, feed 3 of us and pay all the bills. Times are getting harder
