What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

You can`t but then most people are confused as to what a Clean Break really is, most can`t have a clean break if you have dependent children either.

I thought a clean break was when we''d no longer have any financial claim on each other again in the future, and this is exactly what I want. We no longer have any dependent children

A clean break ends claims for assets income and inheritance.

Often claims can`t end for income for many reasons but you still have an end to claims for assets and inheritance.

Many orders by consent or imposed are not clean break orders.

Oh gosh I have a lot to learn - I want/need a clean break where neither one of us will have any right to make any further claims against the other in the future. I need closure.
