What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Problem is unless you are applying, you can''t phone anyone and ask what the actual amount will be.

Best to use the £6k as its on the ''official'' site.

Normally I`d say the official ought to be correct but my g/f earns a similar amount form her part time work as my ex and does similar hours and she gets a lot more than that with 2 children, so I`m wondering if there is something I`ve missed.

The official calculator is probably calculating the claim from now until April 2013 when the year ends. So theoretically both figures could be correct.
