What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Thank you, that''s slightly more positive. I''m 37, so not necessarily old, but i need to get back on the property ladder really. Her partner (One of the 3 she had an affair with) is set to move in in march, and apparently they will then remove my name and buy me out, but she won''t give any assurances or sign anything. it''s a good income but you are spot on, the debt is crippling, and i''m paying just the minimum. It will be a good 5 years before the debt is gone, and in the meantime iv''e nothing i can save either.

You need to push the financials. Although if he moves in (its to your benefit) - as it will mean you most likely will not have to pay SM (cohabitation is a trigger)...

You need to start the proceedings to get a Consent Order. It took me a year from start to finish added to the debt. They wont make you take on the debt and not get any of the assets from the house... Or they may make the debt come out of the sale of the house before assets are divided (and then you may end up with a mesher- but at least you have no debt). Loads of ways to cut the pie

Redundancy saved my bacon.... I hope you find some luck as well.
