What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi,

If costs are awarded against me I''ve got no chance of paying them, if I have to declare bankruptcy would they be treated as any other debt and written off within a year if I was unable to pay them off within the bankruptcy year?

Thanks,

Naz.

Why do you think that will happen?

I presented in person but ex was represented. We had the final hearing and we haven''t had the order yet. The last thing their barrister asked was should be reserve the costs or something to that effect and the judge said yes so I guess in the judges mind it was not an obvious each should pay their own costs.
