What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

My Wife and I are going though divorce, she is spending money like its going out of fashion, borrowing from her family and any one else that will lend her money, she's even bought a new car. Will she be able to put all this dept in the money pot when we get to court? or could this be poor conduct in relation to finances and not included?

Thanks for any help

I have no legal expertise but am going through a divorce, i earn good money and was asked by my wife to explain items of expenditure, i made a stance that i would not explain items under £1000 on my form E. My ex barrister questioned why i did not answer all questions and the reason i gave was because the advice i had from 2 different solicitors was that general expenses were irrelevant to a financial order, they are only interested in if i was hiding money or being reckless with it in order to reduce her settlement, in the end the judge ordered me to explain expenses over £750 on any given day. So the answer yes, she will have to explain herself to a point
