What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I was advised by my previous solicitor, that Lagal Aid for family matters ( contact/residency ) will no longer exist after February 2013.

Could someone please clarify if this is correct?

If so, what is the case, for example, if you have a case that is unresolved, which is being funded by Legal Aid? Would the funding stop in Feb 2013 or would you be able to keep the funding until the case was finalized?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I expect you will be entitled to legal aid to continue under a certificate granted before the rules change.
