What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

You have been very helpful thanks - would it be applicable to both SM or just the child maintenance?

I don`t know what order you have, i would guess segal/connell, if so yes the increase will apply to the global order both SM and CM.

Thank you again - the agreement definitely splits the SM apart from the CM. I am trying to sort this amicably without solicitors so want to make sure I am being fair to both of us.

Its far from easy to advise without actually reading the order, even then you really need a solicitor to advise, as you say this costs money.

For most its best just to agree the increase which will be quite small in the grand scheme of it all.
