What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Can to a settlement after the first court hearing, and she keep the house, and a mesher order was accepted by me, with the clause that if she came up with a agreed figure in the next 12months she can buy me out.

I pay nominal maintaince of £1 per year, + CSA payments for my 7yo daughter.

I have just been offered a very good job in Dubai, tax free, increase in my salary by maybe £30k. Company is Dubai based. So it will be a UAE contract, with salary paid locally.

Can she claim or get any increase to the maintenace that i pay her?

In principle, it is always possible for either party to vary maintenance on the ground of a change in circumstances.

A rise in salary on the scale you mention certainly sounds like the sort of change in circumstances that might justify an increase, but it''s up to her to claim it.
