What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

hi, any advice will be appreciated..

married for 8 yrs, kid is 4 yrs old, got the decree abso and FDR hearin is nxt month..i m studyin right now so mortgage capacity is zero, gettin legal aid, no savings

FMH was valued at 4,70,000 - 4,80,000 last month which he is contesting but we will see...house in his name but got stay on it, so he cant sell without my perm, he says deposit of £80,000 paid by his dad but no legal agreement for it, house bought in aug'04(for £4,20,000), he made mortgage payments till oct'06, after which he is sayin he couldnt afford n his dad is payin mortgage...dad livin with him all the time, mortgage is solely in x hus's name, but self employed so is now showin annual income of £5,000 a yr..!..outstanding mort is £3,00,000..
so wht is the settlement likely to be..even if house was to be sold, wouldnt be enough to buy a prop..
and oh, he remarried a black widow frm abroad and adopted her son as well, n they r all livin in the FMH..
i m in the process of gettin a 3rd solicitor..

i m rentin privately n housin benefit is coverin it in full....my kid is with me, CSA is not yet involved, i hav no debts but x says he owns money to his dad for makin downpayment of £80,000 n mortgage payments by him frm oct'06 onwards..no legal agreement for this though..i m gettin about £500 frm various benefits, dont hav a partner, i dont hav a pension, he has somethin minor..in 1st hearin judge asked valuation for house, n answerin each other's further questionnaires..worried tht he has got 2nd family..new wife's son is abt 7, n x will use him to max..
