Thank you for posting your story divorceVeteran, and I'm sorry for the delay in responding. Fortunately for my wife and I, we are well-informed about all of our joint and individual assets because we recently considered moving house and went through an informal audit in order to work out what we could and could not afford. So hidden funds of £60k is probably not going to be an issue for us ...I hope! Also, we both have good jobs so our situation is not nearly as complex as yours.

I note with thanks your warning comments about your two houses both being 'suitable' even though the values were clearly different. I also note your warning about obtaining financial disclosure and agreement BEFORE separation, which is what my initial question was all about, and is the path I have now decided to push for. Thank you.

With regards to our children and their residency, my wife would prefer to stay in our large FMH and I do not have the stomach to fight her for it (given that most kids seem to end up with their mother), so I am resigned to living in more modest accommodation, albeit big enough for the kids to have rooms of their own should they wish to stay with me at any time.

I am going to try my very best to keep things amicable, but I hear what you are saying about all being fair in love and war!
