What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I divorced 5 years ago but with ex disappearing abroad was unable to sort financial settlement. He has paid mortgage on joint-owned home where I live with my 2 girls (12 & 18), regarding it as an investment. He's been back in uk for year now with new wife and kids in new house and wants to sell my home and give him half of equity. I'm on a low income & can't afford to take over mortgage and if we sell and i get half the equity I won't be able to afford to buy a house. He earns 7 times more than me but i think has got lots of debts. I'm going to see a solicitor but would be interested in any views as to whether 50/50 split would be likely outcome.
