What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Since separating i have been living with a relative however i do have half share in a property inherited from a family member which i have been renovating for the past 18 months. I want to move in there asap.

Obviously my share in this property will enter the pot come the finace shuffle. Given it requires additional works am i within my rights to continue works using funds from my personal accounts? She will of course get her share of the increased value.

Further the house will need furnishing - same question using monies from my personal savings.

In addition i need a new car since the S2BX has use of the family car leaving me with a small runaround which is not suitable for me with particular implications to my hobby. Same question.. are there implications in buying one from my savings?

We have a lup sum in the joint account but she and her sol have "forbidden" me from touching that and although they have no legal right to do so it will keep things chilled if i use my savings.

Pro''s and con''s? Advice welcome.

Thanks
