What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi, I currently pay £645 pm spousal maintenance plus about £420 child maintenance and will do so for the next 5 years. I''m now looking to get a mortgage - does anyone know if a lender reduces this off my income for calculating the maximum loan I can take out?

Thanks for your help.

Yes you will find the majority do. Worth shopping around though as different lenders have different criteria.

Most lenders will ask you about all income and outgoings, and will probably want to see bank statements too. I very much doubt you''ll find one that doesn''t take this into account.
