What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I am down to settling what I have to give my ex in final payment but I would like some advice re how to reply to a letter as I am overwhelmed.

My ex is trying to slip in a decorating bill for £1500 for the marital home which he was living in which I do not accept as I did not agree to or even know about the house being painted (which it didn''t need) .

How do I word that I am not willing to pay for it?

Put in your offer which excludes the decoration. That is a bait so ignore it and do not let him let you rise to it - you might just find that he rises to it and shoots him self in his own foot.
