What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi
I am in the process of going through a divorce with my narcissist husband of over 20years. I have read some positive feedback about the solicitors here on wikivorce and I wondered if anyone's used their services for a divorce settlement - finances and children's arrangements (our boys are nearly 16yrs and 12yrs old). We are doing mediation but I'd like to engage a solicitor who I can consult in the background. Any recommendations and personal experiences are greatly appreciated. I havent been able to work full time as discovery of my husband's infidenlity throughout our marriage about three years ago pushed me into depression and since then I have tried but struggled to work due to stress and anxiety levels being really high. So money is obviously a concern and so I'd like to find out if the wikivorce solicitors can indeed help with my divorce considering I have a narcissist husband. Many thanks.

Sorry to hear about some of the difficulties you have faced and continue to have to deal with.

As you are doing mediation I would suggest that you consider getting support from one of our Consultants using the following service: Help with the Financial Settlement process

This will provide you with an expert on divorce finances to help coach you ahead of mediation sessions as well as advise on what your legal rights and entitlements are.

This service is much less costly than using a full time solicitor and yet is flexible in that additional solicitor advice or support can be called upon as and when necessary.

Thank you for the suggestion - it is something that I am considering. Are you able to recommend anyone who has experience dealing with divorce cases involving a narcissist.

Please can someone let me know if they've worked with a solicitor here while dealing with a narcissistic husband in a long marriage. I know the courts dont like the term 'narcissist' but there's clearly a difference in dealing with a divorce case involving one.
Also, while booking a paid consultation with a solicitor, am I able to choose who I want to speak to.
Many thanks
