My husband and i are divorcing on 2 years agreed seperation. I have already bought him out of the family home, and we have no debts. He has a good pension but at 39,i do not feel it fair to take any of it. We have 2 children (13&7), he pays CM every month, a figure that we have agreed on which we have also agreed will be reviewed annually. We are also looking for a \"clean break\". We are quite amicable.
Seems straight forward enough, so we are looking to go down the road of DIY divorce.
Would you advise this???:S

If your pension fund is the same as his I agree there's no point sharing it.

The only bad side to DIY is hitting your thumb when you miss with the hammer... Ask my ex wife because she was holding the nail at the time....ha ha. (Sorry Couldn't resist..):)

I would think long and hard about the pension share, it may not look fair but if you have no pension then you have to think about your long term furture. Its up to you though.

DIY v ONLINE???

I am still considering both for their benefits.

Weighing out costs, thoroughness and timeliness as well as convenience. But I don't want to jump at online divorce becuase once I have paid a 'package' fee they can decline to take my job on and I get no refund.

managed divorce uk,divorce online co uk,quickie divorce uk are all eager to take on an UNCONTESTED divorce job (easy money), but they don't want to deal with mine (circs on general discussions,'where to start in this mess').

Which now leads me to two hopeful private family solicitors or a DIY divorce.

I have downloaded all of Wikivorce's applicable forms and guides, and I am now ready for a long read over the weekend!!!

Take care and keep your chin up!

The problem with divorce is not so much the process of ending the marriage, that's relatively cheap in most cases especially if you compare it with the costs of getting married !

The real problem comes with matters relating to children and finances. If the parties can work out their own solutions, and they come up with an agreement that is a fair one, then you can go to the Court to get it rubber stamped and then it becomes legally binding.

I think it may well be worthwhile at least considering the possibility of getting legal advice as to whether your agreement is a fair one. If you are still on good terms then I would strongly suggest that any differences could be solved by mediation, much cheaper and gives you a better chance of remaining friends afterwards.

I don't personally think it is wise go down the online divorce or DIY except in very simple and straightforward cases.

Hi Mike, thanks, I believe you are very right! Glad you are on here for this kind of help/advice. It's been so difficult, this first hurdle of actually knowing what to do,before you can actually DO something!

Now I should make an action plan...(lots of thinking required,paper,pencil.....) lol
