married in St Lucia was created by robbo3921
I got married in St Lucia in 1987, I am assuming that the marriage is legally binding in the U.K. I now want to get a divorce, do I go about it in the normal way I would for a U.K marriage? The other problem I have is with my Marriage certificate, I cant find it, do I need it and if so where do I get a copy. we plan to sort the divorce ourselves with as little involvement as possible from a solicitor. Any advice would be welcome.

Hi there

Once you have obtained your marraige certificate you simply follow the usual steps for divorce - there is no special steps for a ceremony having taken place abroad, and yes, your marraige is legally recognised here.

Robbo, I was married in Barbados in 1993, my divorce has been quite straight forward, you shouldn't have a problem once you have obtained your marriage certificate. Poppie

Hi there,

I realise you asked this question many years ago but I am wondering how you found the divorce process? My partner and his wife have been separated for a number of years and we’re advised by a solicitor that a divorce would need to be granted in St Lucia. We’re all hoping they’ve been badly advised!

Thanks!

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has successfully managed a divorce after marrying in St Lucia. I married in 1993 Gros Islet and now need to get a divorce.

I have contacted every address going, sent two postal orders and have still not received a copy of my marriage certificate. I would love some help as I am at my wits end
