What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Hi

I had agreed to a settlement proposal from my stbx''s solicitor and had taken steps towards meeting their requirements.

I just received a letter from my stbx''s solicitor stating that I had just had a tax refund for £x and could I confirm this. I confirmed and now they are changing the settlement agreement and asking for more money.

How did they obtain confidential information on my tax situation? Can they use this against me in this way? I gave my disclosure but as my income varies wildly it is slightly different to my last years earnings. I am so fed-up with all of this, it has been going on almost three years now and each time we agree they change their minds and want more.

Any help would be greatly appreciated especially on the legalities of using information not obtained with my authorisation.
