What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

From my understanding it doesnt matter where you file- you just need the marriage certificate and to state the reason.

You are eligible to divorce in the UK because your husband lives here and I assume you are also be eligible to divorce over there. If you divorce in England & Wales the finances are treated separately and you need to ensure that there is a court order dismissing future claims. Before you apply though it''s worth doing some research to compare the differences and costs.
