Hello, when my husband asked for a divorce (last September) I said that he can put what he wants on the papers just so long as I don''t have to deal with the whole process. Neither of us are using lawyers. We have no children, no home, no savings, no assets to split and he has agreed to pay all court fees so no issues there.

He said that he sent through the application for the Nisi to divorce course at Bury & StEdmunds before Christmas so I think we are on this stage:

A judges reviews the documents and if satisfied, sets a date for the Decree Nisi. The Decree Nisi is pronounced and the court notifies your lawyer.

I was just wondering how long it will take for me to get a letter from the judge with the date our Decree Nisi will be declared? When I look at the flow chart it appears that it should be relatively quick as the date of the pronouncement is 5 weeks after receipt of the Nisi Application... however its been four weeks since he sent the paperwork off.

I have a ''slight'' concern that he hasn''t actually sent the forms off so wanted to check that it was normal to wait quite a while for a letter from the judge?

Its not unusual, since the introduction of the Divorce Centres rather than local courts. I don''t use the South East centre myself so can''t say what their timescales are, but I would expect them to slow down a bit around christmas as its likely that staff would have had time off.

If you want, you could call the court quoting your case number, they should be able to tell you whether they have received an application for Decree Nisi.

Although normally you should get the certificate of entitlement well before the date of the decree nisi we went though a phase with our local centre a couple of months ago where we were getting them through as little as 24 hours before the pronouncement of DN. It has improved sincethen but absent any other reason to suspect your ex I would put it down to the delays of the Court rathe than anything more sinister.

It took several weeks (8-10? certainly longer than the flow chart advised)to get the letter from BStE court giving the date for the Decree Nisi.
I got the letter 3rd week of December stating the DN would be issued 2nd Feb and received confirmation that this had happened on 4th Feb
