What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

I have just attended the first hearing vi a telephone.

My divorce was twenty years ago and we never settled finances.
I know I left ex with money in the bank and I am now seeking my half of that and any pension I am entitled to.

form Es show a massive disparity in our financial situations now
I am in debt he is ok. Has a reasonable pension 100k in the bank and two properties
My argument is
Some of that disparity could be attributed to the fact that he was left, at the time of divorce, much better off than me. I can't prove he had money at that time, I just can explain our circumstances. Would I need to prove it?

At the end of the first appointment the judge advised me to get legal help and that post marital assets would not be considered unless I could prove need.

I have very little pension: I have no savings. Why
I purchased family home for or children
Ex council house spent years and any excess money on making it liveable
retrained at university: no income for three years, left with debt still paying
Didn't get a full time position, work but have no security, zero hour contract
Our daughter suffered school anxiety meaning I would need to be available for her so worked as a supply teacher
applied for job years later Head said, 'you must be as old as me', didn't apply for anymore jobs
Do I have the bones of demonstrating need?
Would I benefit from Wiki services? Have I left it too late to benefit from service?
Thanks
