mediation may defuse the situation and allow for constructive progress to be made more quickly. Even if the aim of reaching an agreement isn't achieved by discussing finances directly you should have a better understanding of what can be agreed, what might be agreed and what are the sticking points. That saves both time and the expense of meeting with two separate solicitors, writing letters and responding in negotiations/court proceedings.
