What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Welcome to wiki. Hopefully you will get all the help and support you will need at this difficult time.

Can you give some more details regarding your circumstances so that other posters can give more advise.

For example Do you have children, who do they live with, how long have you been married.

Paying 3/4 of your wage for the mortgage is unsustainable for any length of time, have you talked to the lender to ask what they would accept due to your circumstances, does the mediator think mediation will work, what can work is the threat of court proceedings, be reasonable or you will make an application for a financial order, its probably best to let your solicitor to decide the next move.
