What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

Are you confident your children will be rehoused appropriately?

Is you wife going to be able to manage financially?

We were married 18 years.

I am not confident I will be able to buy a house but this is due to my work situation and being unable to get a mortgage but I will be able to rent a place for me and the kids easily enough. My wife is already renting a place and has been since she moved out

As to my wife managing financially, she has managed fine in the year since we separated. In the financial disclosure we did for mediation she claimed her outgoings exceeded her income by £550 per month, but she had not taken on any debt or drawn from her savings (apart from to buy a new car for £7K). She has also managed 2 overseas holidays in the last 6 months!
