What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

How do I go about finding a good divorce lawyer in Sussex? There are plenty to choose from but nothing that indicates whether they are any good or not.

I have been using a large firm who specialize in family law but I dont feel well represented so I am considering going elsewhere.

If anyone has any recommendations I would greatly apreciate it:S

If you look further down threads in this section you'll find one started by me on choosing a solicitor. I think it might help.

Chamberlain's, the publisher, has an independent guide to solicitors which might be some use. The family lawyers organisation, Resolution, has a directory of members. If you Google them there are databases you can search on their website.

If you have friends or relatives who have gone through divorce , call them and ask who will be the best divorce lawyer for you. They will then recommend you the best one.
