Enough letters to paper my walls

I am So frustrated.:
I now have a huge folder of letters, the last half dozen telling me nothing new! We are awaiting FH six months down the line, whilst letters fly back and forth between solicitors repeating the same thing....It is stalemate and I am concious of costs, having to fund this myself. My sol is aware of this, meanwhile they keep repeating each sides proposal back and forth whilst sending me copies of what I already know!!!!!!!!!!
Also instead of put two bits of relevent info in one letter, some days I get a least two letters written on the dame date.
Is this how they make their money??
X and his sol wont agree what house is reasonably worth by 2 Estate Agents as a third overvalued by 25k compared to the other two (both same), insisting we go by the highest value.
Because X has always been unreasonable he is trying to bully me into taking a low settlement as he is leaving the country and his sol stated in writing "we have no intention of departing from our proposal and if Mrs X wont settle she will be in for a very long wait as Mr X is leaving the country and will be uncontactable

Nightmare.

We had 14 letters sent to us in 11 days, sometimes 3 posted same day. Considering the usual response time to any letter is 14 days, you can imagine how frustrating it was for us to answer one then six more pop through the door. Anyway it became just too much for us. So we employed a solicitor! (BIG MISTAKE for us!)it started off with can you just put £700 on account. Okay we say, great shouldnt be too much, just to answer a few letters! and it was great for a week no letters popping through our door, bringing doom and gloom, threatening, demanding unreasonable letters i might add! We then get a phone call, mid second week, could we pop in and see our solicitor. Okay and off we trot, blah blah blah, half hour update on all thats happened in a week? hahahah we then get a bill for £2750!!!! end of second week! That did it, we sacked them off! All our savings went in two weeks.
My husband demanded the file, they wouldnt give it to him until he paid the bill, we got it and low and behold, other parties solicitors had at times rang our solicitor 3 times a day, then sent a fax to confirm the call, then sent a letter to confirm the call and fax! All in all in just one day a telephone call had cost us £75 + vat! 3 a day had cost us £225 + Vat!!!!
Its outrageous! But then thats why his ex wife's bill is now £30k!!!!!!!!!! UNBELIEVABLE! So hey ho here we represent ourselves again! And dont forget there is always the chance you may or may not get costs awarded against you!
To say i have not slept one wink in two years is an understatement!!! I have lost 3 stone in weight! It felt so good letting someone else take over if only for a week! But i am so glad we never kept solicitor on, i beleive if we had, i would be sleeping in a tent now for what little i do sleep!#

P.s. We were ordered in court to have a surveyors report done as her side would not accept any estate agents valuations? This cost £750 + VAT!!!! Im surprised you havent been ordered to!

The Judge may yet order that.

The point is, at what point do you put your hands up and say.....Just take what you want, just give me the forms.....

I have been bullied for many years and refuse to be bullied into accepting a grossly unfair split. I hope the Judge can facilitate some kind of reasonable diaglogue and make a fnal judgement, be that before he leaves the country or when he comes back.

Should it be the latter, then I will represent myself.

Is it just me or does it seem grossly unfair that solicitors are able to get away with all of this when we appear to have no choice but to utilise their services to get a fair settlement? I may even take Louise's suggestion to my separate posting and self-represent. Even with 2 small children to content with I am sure I could do a better job on the admin than my solicitor. Does anyone know if it is possible to just pay solicitors for their time to get legal advice when you need it and do the form-filling and letter-writing yourself?

Im sorry but i dont actually know the answer to this one, i suppose it depends on who or what solicitor you use, but i have heard something about solicitors being an agent for you? Something i am going to look into and see if i can find out for everyone! Or maybe if a solicitor on here would like to answer this one for us all? Seems quite a few solicitors have logged on recently, so hey ho one may answer this post! But then again................

I am in the same mess right now, cannot agree a settlement, feel we have to go to court, dreading the cost, hear so many stories. Worried I may have to pay his costs tho had heard that does not happen anymore. confused after reading about calderbank offer dont want to find after talks with him that I am liable for his costs.
Solicitor driving me mad I also receive two letters typed in one day sometimes.how long were you married for? kids? work? would like to have some friends to talk to it helps.
