What are we each entitled to in our divorce settlement?

What does the law say about how to split the house, how to share pensions and other assets, and how much maintenance is payable.

What steps can we take to reach a fair agreement?

The four basic steps to reaching an agreement on divorce finances are: disclosure, getting advice, negotiating and implementing a Consent Order.

What is a Consent Order and why do we need one?

A Consent Order is a legally binding document that finalises a divorcing couple's agreement on property, pensions and other assets.

What is the average cost of divorce. My solicitor is asking me for 6500 pounds to reach an agreement by negotiation only, and if he has to go to court he wants more than 10000.I am realy shoked by these figures especially I have no money now.He is asking me to take a loan from the bank as I am not in titeled of legal aids because of my interast in the assets. It is very apreciated if I will get help from you in resolving this by giving me your opinion about the fees and the loan from the bank.

Many thanks in advance

why does your sol need paying in advance...also if goes to court how does he know the cost as it depends on the length. Im not expert but my fees since feb are approx up to £5000 and still got poss 2 more court hearings yet!!! I didnt get legal aid but my sol been fab and dont have to pay til finances settled as he knows whats coming...perhaps get a different sol. I have become wary of anyone legally minded so suppose im lucky with my one
