Any exercise helps but running is one of the top three. I do cycling, just stick on me i-pod and off i go for 14miles.

But must start the running though.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I've got to say..I love running!!!:PIt's one of the things I really look forward to each day.

I have honestly never played a serious sport or ran my whole life until this all happened. I started walking daily as per the book I was reading for my depression and soon i was running! I've lost weight, am getting fitter and best of all I find achieving those little targets (like running just that little bit further without stopping)so personally rewarding. I remember the first morning I tried walking, how great it felt to get out of this tiny flat, hold my head up high, smile at the other walkers/joggers and say "good morning".
Music is also a must for me. I've got a playlist of great fast tempo songs all with meaningful lyrics. When i start to get weary or need motivation I just try to jog to the beat while taking in the lyrics and if no-one else is around I'll have a little sing, but i'm bound to get caught doing that one day!

arker, I've always run so when 'it' happened I really felt the benefit. Oddly enough the stress caused me to lose about 10 lbs and my 5k times improved by 30 seconds! Mind you, when the stress went away (thank god) the weight went back up and the times went up with it. I usually run to music when I'm alone.
One of the very few pics I posted is of me gasping for air in a 5k run in my local park. Funny how I chose that 'cos it's one of the first things I associate with what makes me 'me'.
Keep running mate, we weren't meant to spend all of our spare time lying on sofa's eating crisps and pizza's.
