Hi,
I really need a break and found ads for specialist holiday companies for single travellers such as Solo and Solitaire. It seems to be mainly women of my age with a sprinkling of fellas so it seems that it is a fairly relaxed type of holiday and not any weird swinging scene or match-making milarkey.
Have any of you been on these holidays and can you recommend which tour operator and/or place to go. I do fancy the idea of this type of holiday where i dont have to watch families playing and couples smooching and instead just have good conversations with people similar to myself.
Thanks

Haven't been on one yet, but polanning to do so. Spice run holidays. Have also been recommended to Exodus and Thelma and Louise which takes a rather different approach.

I was comparing prices between them and regular tour operators the other day. I do think the singles operators have a cheek to state no single supplement, as they are twice as expensive.
Another thing, check the hotels on Trip Advisor. I was looking at a hotel in Croatia, on the JustYou site which sounded great.
Checked on TA and was completly turned off by the reviews.
There is a site called travel buddy I think. Where you get to know one another online with the intention of going on holiday. Yeah here it is.

CM that's precisely why I haven't booked one yet - the mark up is huge. On the other hand you get to be with other single people and have some organised trips.

And thats exactly what put me off going on one of these. The costs. I also didnt like the idea that I was somehow diferent becuase I am single. I am just the same as anyone else.

What I did in the end was book a villa, the flight and the car. And for the last 2 years I have stayed in a villa in spain. I just shop, cook and sit by the pool. Watch a bit of telly as well on the veranda and just chill and sleep. I was scared of this at 1st if I would get there an just want to come home. And thought it was a huge step. I even worked out how much it would cost to fly home the next day lol. But after a day or so, I didnt want to leave. And I did the same the next year. And I am going back again in sept :P

I guess it depends on what you want. But a singles hol to me is just that. C.

Interesting about the mark up, I hadn´t thought to compare. That said it is about being with a group of people and a planned itineray I am interested in (but with freedom not to join in). I have been on my own trips before, and have enjoyed them, but I am shy so never go out or hook up with new friends on my own. Eating at restaurants on your own is a bit uncomfortable at times. This way it is all arranged (and frankly I am exhausted so would like someone else to do the planning). Hence I would pay the extra I think.
Thanks for the advice and I will check out the other suggestions :)

Hope this doesn't sound like a hijack!;)

Does anybody think it would be worth starting a group for wiki's that need a cheap break:-
Some of us are suddenly in houses with several spare rooms.
What about "come & stay somewhere different; use my place as a base; company for me; make your own agenda....but don't expect a hotel!"

haven't thought it through, yet:blush: :blink::blush:
