The BBC ran an article on this exact question a couple of weeks ago.

You can read the article U6 mentioned here - www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-18801221

I sold mine, and got £20 for it, (considering it only cost £35 originally), and bought some books with the proceeds

I designed my wedding and engagement ring and had them made, I love them both so wouldn''t ever get rid of them and unfortunately they only fit on that finger so they are being kept safe at my mums. I may get them made bigger so I can wear them on another finger at some point, they are the only piece of jewellery I have designed for myself so I feel sentimental about them for that reason but not the marriage.

I sold mine not long after I found out about his affair. I had a brilliant night out at the dog track with lots of wine on it and came home one hundred pounds richer. Best thing I ever did, very cathartic!

I asked my husband for his wedding ring, he said why would i give it to you, I said so I can weigh it in. He didn''t look happy. I thought he wants out so the ring is of no use to him, but he didn''t give me it. I was going to get rid of my wedding and engagement ring but when I thought about it they were given to me with love, maybe some time in the future when my love for him has totally faded I might get rid of them, but for now they are back in the box they came in, in the safe out of sight.

I was thinking about this just the other day.
My wedding ring had some diamonds that were already mine put into it.
So think i will have them taken out and made into something else.
I just need to decide if i want to melt down gold and have it made into that something else, or, get rid of it.

I dont feel like i''ll still be wearing my wedding ring but in a different form as diamonds were mine before getting married.

I sold ours for scrap and the money went towards wedding rings for my son and his wife. Just seemed no point keeping them in a box.

I''m getting a quote for having my engagement and eternity rings re-modelled into one ring as the diamonds are really nice.
