History of Family Law

Has anyone come across any good books on the history of family law? I'm trying to research how we got into the present situation, but there seems to be very little information out there. I've got Cretney's 'Family Law in the Twentieth Century', but it pretty much ends in 1989. and doesn't extend back very far.

Many text books designed for university students will include a section about the history and background - See whether your local library has a copy of 'Bromley's Family Law' for instance (I wouldn't go out and buy it as it's about £35!, and is mainly about current law but with some history as background) From memoery, each section has a quick history showing how the law has developed before going into more detail about current law.

Thanks TBagpuss, that's the one I said I already had! I also have his 'Law, Law Reform and the Family'. I've also got quite a few student text books, though as you say, they aren't so good on the history.

I'd also be interested in anything anyone can recommend on the history of the fathers' rights movement (but not Richard Collier).
