I've just got an appointment for a Directions hearing on April 13th and would like some advice.

I'm applying for contact and residence orders - at the first hearing am I right in thinking there's no need/option for a MacKenzie Friend?

CAFCASS haven't contacted me yet, how quick are they usually?

Any other advice?

Thanks.

There's no reason why you can`t have MF but if you do intend to write to the court first with a cv of MF and ask permission (send it recorded) the judge has the final say but they are supposed to agree unless there is a good reason not too.

Hi,
personally I would say there's noneed for a MF at the Directions hearing.
It's basically a half hour in a room with the judge, clerk, and the other side.
The judge takes an overall view of the situation and decides if there's a need to call in CAFCASS and will set a date and a timescale for the main hearing.
It is at the directions hearing that I would be requesting the use of a MK for the main case hearing.
It s however quite important that you take notes at the directions hearing, dates etc:.
Before my directions hearing I was bricking it, but when it was over I was thinking "wow, was that it?",
it was little more than a formal meeting.:)

There is generally no need for a Mc Kenzie friend. I was told it was possible but i had to ask the judge and the Respondant for their approval beforehand ( in the hour before).
As the judge questions you directly and want to know your position, it would not look good if you ask someone else to be there and assist.
You should be sure of your case and speak clearly to the judge.
They are generally very understanding and try not be untimidating.

My stbx advised me that she is bringing "a friend" with her for the Directions hearing so I was thinking about taking a Makenzie so they don't "gang up on me" but from what you've said I don't need to worry.

I have been accused of abusing the children on the C1A form but this amounts to my daughter not having socks on once when she was returned and unkempt hair and other such frivolous accusations.
