Hi,
I’m going through a divorce and I’ve had to close the joint account due to financial reasons. Although my wife has sizeable savings, she has no income, and has applied to the CMS for child support [we have a child together]. At the moment we are still living under the same roof, but lead separate lives and the CMS have yet to tell me how much I have to pay.

I also have a 30 year old severely mentally disabled son from a previous relationship, which I still feel obligated to provide financial support.

My question is this, “If I were to start paying my wife child maintenance [using the CMS calculator to take into account my other son] would that have any influence on the CMS when I eventually apply for a variation regarding my other son.”

No you won’t be able to influence the CMS decision. They won’t take into account your 30 year old son or make alllowance for any money you choose to give him.
