This is an account that is worthy of consideration:

The Petitioner issued a Petition based on adultery and claimed costs.

A claim for costs was prepared in the sum of £1700 (the respondent had evaded service and caused additional costs to be incurred).

The respondent objected to paying costs in this amount and offered half of the court fees.

The matter was listed for a costs hearing when the respondent instructed his solicitor to write to the court with submissions "to save on costs".

The court awarded costs in the petitioner''s favour and assessed costs at a little under £2500.

Agreeing costs, whether a negotiated amount or a contribution, can sometimes be better than leaving it to the court to decide.
