Hi, does anyone know what makes a "special contribution ?" eg I created and ran a successful business does this qualify for preferential treatment in split of assets ?

Really depends on all the circumstances, i.e. you may have done this, but how did your partner contribute in other ways.

Special contribution arises in cases of substantial wealth generation through business acumen. In the case of Charman v Charman, for example, the assets were around £120m and it was decided that the husband's remarkable abilities, his energy and wealth creation amounted to contribution which was exceptional and justified a departure of 5%.
