We went through mediation for a few sessions , then drew up a Consent Order with just solicitors back and forth- took about 6 months . We split the assets 50:50 .no spousal maintenance or child maintenance could be settled as my husband didn’t have a job - he just agreed to split school costs 50:50 and that was written into consent order .

I did the same as your ex-husband as they were trying to sign me up for long term spousal maintenance. Legally there is nothing they can do as it's not like I had the money and was trying to hide it. I was happy to provide spousal maintenance for a few years for her to retrain but they were trying for essentially unlimited time which to me felt like I would become her indentured servant and it took me stopping work for them to realise that it was never going to happen. In the end the ex-wife retrained while working which was difficult for her but she caused that situation herself and is now doing really well for herself which she wouldn't have done if I was still maintaining her.
