Hello I have been married for nearly 5 years and we have no children from the marriage. I’m 58 and my wife is 55. When we bought our property she put down a deposit of 34k and in an effort to have an equal share I pay two thirds of the monthly mortgage. In terms of financial settlement I have suggested that she get her 34k back and i take back my 60 months of one third payment I agreed to after deducting interest payments. I have also said other than my personal belongings I need nothing in terms of furniture. After sale costs have been deducted I have suggested a 50 50 split. I earn 55k she earns 30k and our pension pots are roughly equal does this sound reasonable as a settlement?. Thank you.

Will you each need able to rehouse adequately if the equity is divided equally between you? If yes then I think that's a reasonable approach. If no, you need to look at your respective mortgage capacities and the cost of rehousing and adjust the share of equity accordingly.
