Hi all

Sadly time to initiate a separation and divorce.

We are 33& (me)35 - Married 6 years.

I earn about £70k including bonuses, she earns about £45k.

We don't have any children. We have a home with a mortgage that i would want to sell.

we agreed when we got together that in the event of separation we would split everything 5050 but this is just verbal.

I pay more into the joint account for bills each month, but voluntarily. it left us with approximatley the same disposable cash each month.

My question is, does she have a claim to any of my income after separation? I'm hoping it can be resolved amicably so courts are not involved as our assets are except furniture etc kind of tailored to us (i.e. my tech, valuables) and probably split similiarly.

Another query is i am considering a role change would see another 20-25kpa income however it would come with greater costs as it would be in London.

I can hold off on doing this for as long as i need as dont expect things happen overnight.

Spousal maintenance is based upon need of the recipient and ability to pay of the payer.

It would be very difficult for a single person in their 30s earning £45k to be able to claim that they needed extra financial support.
