I would just like to tell people to DIY your divorce, I have spent over £12,000 so far just to get to first hearing, after raising concerns with my barrister at the first hearing, she suggested that I would be able to do nearly all the paperwork for the FDR and to use my solicitor on an ad hoc basis, doing it this way will save me over £40,000 as my case is quite complicated with over 44 properties to consider.
The barrister very honestly informed me that my solicitor was only really checking the letters and putting any information in basic terms, as most are self explanatory I would be able to deal with them myself.
The solictor upon hearing that I wanted him on an Ad Hoc basis tried to arrange for a Clean Break and wasn't really interested anymore, he did agree to check over any affidavits etc. No more tea and biscuits for me then lol.
I hope people just starting out do most of the work themselves and save their money, until you go to the first hearing most of the letters (I have over 50) are a total waste of time and money.
